Shiro Takatani

Graduated from the Department of Environmental Design, Faculty of Fine Arts, Kyoto City University of Arts. Joined "Dumb Type" as a founding member in 1984 and has since been involved in the production of "Dumb Type" performances and installations, working in video, lighting, graphic design and stage design. Apart from "Dumb Type", Takatani has worked on a joint production with Akira Asada in the Stadsmarkering Groningen municipal project in the Netherlands under the direction of Daniel Libeskind in 1990. In 1999 Takatani oversaw the visuals for the Ryuichi Sakamoto opera "Life". At the 2001 Valencia Biennale in Spain he showed the installation "Iris", a joint production with Fujiko Nakaya.
