Yutaka Sone

Born in 1965. Lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Works in various mediums with an emphasis on sculpture. Born and raised in Japan, he does not exploit his heritage and his work is hard to locate culturally. His projects are derived from diverse cultural, social and spiritual encounters. As with the past marble projects such as "Amusement (1998)"'s roller coaster or "Freeway Junction(2002)"'s LA landscape, his recent snowflake sculptures are carved marble which are made in collaboration with stone craftsmen in Fujian, China. Represented Japan at La Biennale di Venezia 2003. Participated in Whitney Biennial 2004, the 25th Biennial di Sao Paulo in Brazil, the 13th Biennale of Sydney in Australia and also had solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. In 2006, Sone had a solo exhibition at Renaissance Society in Chicago.
