ISLAND EYE ISLAND EAR はデビッド・チュードア（音）／中谷芙二子（霧）／ジャッキィ・マチス（佩）の共同によるライブコンサート。３人がそれぞれに異なるテクノロジーを使って島固有の自然や土地の記憶を甦らせ、応答する環境として演奏する。複雑に交差する音のビーム、刻々に変化する霧、空に舞う佩が島の自然と響き合って、日常の風物を親密な風景へ、脈動する場へと変換する。観客は“島環境”を探索しながら自らもその一部となって、風土が固有する豊かで多様な自然との交渉を楽しむ。

［プロジェクトの実施手続き］
環境視察：アーティストとE.A.T.スタッフが現地へと赴き、島の地勢／地文／気象／水源／植栽などを調査。音／霧／佩の現場テストを行う。
マッピング：地形の特徴に命名して地図を作成。音空間と霧環境の構成、位置関係を記入。
環境調査：生息動植物／地質／水質などを化学者／専門家が調査分析し、デザイン過程で助言。
実施計画：環境保全の手立て＝表土保護チップ／手摺／ブリッジ／散策のコリオグラフィ等、衛生／安全／法規面、交通、記録方法の検討、地域コミュニティの参画、自治体との連携など。

ISLAND EYE ISLAND EAR is an environmental concert conceived by composer David Tudor in collaboration with Fujiko Nakaya and Jackie Matisse. Working in different media they will use technology to reveal the visual, sound and physical properties of the island. The three artists will provide the public with an opportunity to explore and experience the variety and richness of nature on the island.

[Project Procedure]
Site visit : Artists and E.A.T.staff visited Knavelskar, studied wind patterns, topography, fauna and other physical properties ; tested the sound and fog systems and the kites.
Mapping : The island was mapped, sound and fog sites were chosen.
Environmental studies : Scientists and experts conducted soil, vegetation, and water surveys and advised on the project design.
Implementation : Measures to protect the environment during public’s visit=wood chips, railings, bridges, choreographed walks. Plans for safety, sanitation, traffic patterns, and local community and government involvement.
