砂漠に築かれた人工都市キャンベラ。オーストラリア国立美術館彫刻の庭の砂丘のような乾いた風景の中に霧の彫刻＜FOGGY WAKE IN A DESERT＞を設置。10年を経た今、霧の彫刻は、湿った空気の対流により自足の温帯生態圏を生成、乾いた周囲の外気との平衡を保っている。眠っていた砂漠の植物が発芽し、木々が茂る。霧の中を散策する人や鳥や小動物が新しい種を運んでくる。この霧の彫刻は、砂漠に1km 四方の霧環境を挿入し、10年間その変化を観測・記録するプロジェクト＜RECORD OF CHANGES＝砂漠の成因・擬態プローブ　1970＞（京都大学光田寧教授指導）の模擬実験でもある。

FOGGY WAKE IN A DESERT was installed in the dune-like landscape of the sculpture garden of Australian National Gallery in Canberra. Now, ten years later, the fog sculpture maintains a temporal mini-ecosphere sustaining itself at equilibrium with the surrounding dry air through its own convection. Dormant seeds sprouted and foliage thickened. Animals and birds brought in new seeds. This fog sculpture is a test model for a collaborative art/science project (1970), a simulation probe to observe and record the climatical and ecological changes over a period of 10 years by inserting a fog environment of 1 kilo meters square into the desert.
